Vented Gas Fireplaces vs. Vent Free Gas Fireplaces

Fire places have evolved since the first time they were created. There are vented gas fireplaces as well as vent free gas fireplaces. They all have good and bad sides, but you have been probably wondering which one is the best. Long time ago, people were limited to use wood fire places. Yes, they were very efficient, but nowadays there is another better and more modern way of heating up your house. There are gas fireplaces. Actually, these kinds of fireplaces are more effective than old fashioned fireplaces. These kinds of fireplaces are fueled with propane or natural gas or with gas gels. Gas fireplaces are much better than old fashioned fireplaces because you don’t have to clean up after each use, they don’t need all that hassle of storing logs next to the fireplace, chopping the wood, etc.

Vented Gas Fireplaces vs. Vent Free Gas Fireplaces

Gas fireplaces are very modern and they can be divided to vented and vent free fireplaces. From the other side, vented gas fireplaces can be then divided into one that have smoke emissions and they have a chimney, and to ones that have a direct vent which draws the sir from the outside and at the same time lets the smoke outside of the room. Since these fireplaces have a chimney, this means that the smoke that is here created is also going out through the chimney, therefore these fireplaces are very good for our health as well. One more interesting thing about vented gas fireplaces is that they have very realistic flame. The flame looks almost like the one created by real wood burning fireplaces. This is a very nice feature, since a lot of people want to have that realistic looking flame burning from their fireplace, as this make the atmosphere more romantic and charming. From the other side, vented gas fireplaces have some bad sides as well. The biggest disadvantage is that you will need a lot of money in order to install it. The problem can become even bigger if at your home you don’t have a good structure which will be able to receive a vented fireplace. Other bad thing with the installation is if you have a too small room which doesn’t have enough space for a chimney or wall hole. From the other side, vent free fireplaces are good because they are portable, they don’t require a lot of maintenance, they are not very expensive, and they don’t require any special installation.

These fireplaces are able to make even more heat that vented gas fireplaces. Also, vent free fireplaces have very modern designs, so they can make a very nice centerpiece in any room. You can use these fireplaces in both bigger and smaller rooms. However, there are some disadvantages in using vent free fireplaces. Vent-less gas fireplaces create moisture in the room where they are used. This can cause the creation of mildew and mold. These models also come with oxygen depletion systems which mean that the gas will automatically shut down when the level of oxygen falls to very low inside the room. This is why it is advised to have your room windows a few open when you are using vent free gas fireplaces.
